The EGTC West-Vlaanderen Dunkerque Côte d'Opale presented its cross-border cooperation between hospitals in the border area between Belgium and France during the Forum of the Committee of the Regions "The Single Market Act: What's in it for Europe's regions and cities?" on 30 November 2010.
The project aims to foster the economic and social development in border area between France and Belgium providing technical cooperation with the purpose of delivering a hospital network as well as a shared training service for the assistant staff. This is not the only EGTC action related to health. A cross-border hospital is being built in La Cerdanya (Catalonia, in co-operation with the French Health Service) and other EGTCs foresee health care in their object of co-operation.
