The "ABAÚJ-ABAÚJBAN European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation" (Development Partnership), which has been developed on the basis of a Hungarian-Slovakian international partnership, was officially registered at the Budapest Metropolitan Court on 11 June 2010.

4 Local and Regional Authorities from Hungary and Slovakia formed the ABAÚJ-ABAÚJBAN EGTC in order to foster economic and social development in the region. The goal is to support cooperation and development between cross-border territories by strengthening economic and social cohesion, to allow and assist economic and social development between cross-border territories as well as to support business spirit and a high level ethical attitude to entrepreneurship in cross-border territories.

The European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation brings together members who have already been cooperating on common Cross-Border Cooperation programmes since 2007, when the two countries entered the Schengen area, organizing common events on twinning cities, culture, cultural diversity, tourism, communication, and support to the SMEs.

The operative body of the new EGTC is the VITEA Foundation, whose activities have allowed the continuous rise in the number of common Cross-Border Cooperation programmes in the area.
