It is our pleasure to inform you that in 2016 Hungary will organise for the 5th time “the István Pálfi Award” granting ceremony to remember the late István Pálfi, Member of the Hungarian and the European Parliament. The event will be hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary in Budapest between the 22-23rd of September.

István Pálfi was among the politicians who have initiated the drafting of the Regulation on European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation (EGTC) that has brought revolutionary changes in the history of cross-border cooperation. The Hungarian Government has declared the politician’s birthday a day of remembrance, and awards people, who by means of their professional activity significantly contribute to the development of the European regional and cross-border cooperation.    

In the past years the award has been granted to Jan Olbrycht, Representative of the European Parliament; Michel Delebarre, Mayor of Dunkerque; Danuta Hübner, Representative of the European Parliament and Luc Van den Brande, Special Adviser to EU Commissioner Johannes Hahn. Hungarian expert was granted for the first time in 2013: Gyula Ocskay, Secretary General of CESCI – Central European Service for Cross-border Initiatives.
