Bihar–Bihor Euroregion

Name of Region: Bihar–Bihor Euroregion

The establishment of the Hajdú-Bihar - Bihor Euroregion has significant historical precedents. The relation between the two counties has a history that has lasted for several decades. The fundamental idea of the Euroregion created by the Hungarian Hajdú-Bihar county and the Romanian Bihor county is the joint exploitation of the advantages of border region location.

On the basis of the cooperation agreement signed in Nagyvárad (Oradea) on 11 October 2002 the Committee approved the Organisational and Operational Rules of the Euroregion on 7 May 2003.

The area of the Euroregion is 13,755 km2, the number of inhabitants is 1,176,400 capital.

The objectives of the cooperation: the improvement of the conditions of the crossing of the border and of access to the border region, the facilitation of economic cooperation, the development of human resources in cross-border aspect, the development of tourism, environmental and nature protection and water management cooperation.

Carpathian Euroregion

Name of Region: Carpathian Euroregion

Established on 14 February 1993 in Debrecenben with the participation of Poland, Hungary, Slovakia and Ukraine. Romania joined the cooperation in April 1997. The Carpathian Foundation was established to provide financing of its operation. Centre: Nyíregyháza.

Area:161,192 square kilometres. Population: 16.051 million capita.

Objectives: facilitation of social, economic, scientific, ecological, educational, cultural and sport cooperation; lobby support of the implementation of cross-border projects, cooperation on mutual basis with national institutions and organisations.

Name of Region: Duna-Dráva-Száva Euroregion

The Euroregion was established in Pécs, on 28 November 1998 with the signing of the Constitution, its founding members are Baranya county, the town of Pécs with county status, the Pécs-Baranya Chamber of Commerce and Industry from the Republic of Hungary, Eszék-Baranya county, the town of Eszék (Osijek), the Eszék County Chamber of the Croatian Chamber of Economy (HGK) from the Republic of Croatia, and Bosznia-Hercegovinából Tuzla-Podrinya Canton, Tuzla and the Chamber of Economy of the Tuzla region from Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Objectives: the development of relations between the population and the institutions in the region; the creation of the conditions for more successful exchange of knowledge and experience; the creation of the professional basis for the elaboration of the concept of sustainable development in the area of the Euroregion using the joint and individual material and natural conditions, taking into consideration the protection of nature and the environment; the preparation and definition of a joint development strategy.

Name of Region: Duna-Kris-Mures-Tisza Euroregion

The organisation was established on 21 November 1997 in Szeged. It received its name from four rivers: Duna, Körös (Kris), Maros (Mures) and Tisza.

Area: 71,879 square kilometres. Population: 5.3 million capita.

Neogradiensis Euroregion

Name of Region: Neogradiensis Euroregion

The declaration of intention of the establishment of the Euroregion was signed by the representatives of Nógrád county from Hungary and the Losonc (Lučenec), Nagykürtös (Veľký Krtíš) and Poltár districts from Slovakia in September 1999. As a result of the subsequent preparatory work the founding document was signed at Losonc on 25 March 2000, by the leaders of Region Neogradiensis from the Slovakian side and of Neogradiensis Region Association from the Hungarian side.

Area: 4,668 km2, number of inhabitants: 359,782 capita.

The objective of the cooperation is the formulation of a successful field in the area of the Euroregion that is supported by both countries and utilises the internal resources jointly, which is competitive in the regional economic competition and provides a good life quality and a future perspective to its inhabitants.

A Sajó-Rima Eurorégió Határon Átnyúló Együttműködés 2000. július 07-én alakult meg. A szervezetet kiemelkedően közhasznú szervezetként a B-A-Z Megyei Bíróság 2928. szám alatt vette nyilvántartásba.

Tevékenységének hatóköre a Sajó és Rima folyók menti térségek települései, (szlovák vízgyűjtő területen 211, magyar vízgyűjtő területen 125), összesen 336 település, közel 1 millió ember, mintegy 6000 km2.

The founding document of the Vah-Danube-Ipel Euroregion was signed at Neszmély in Komárom-Esztergom county, on board of ship Táncsics that was floating on the Slovakian-Hungarian borderline of Danube on 3 July 1999. The founders are the superiors of Nyitra (Nitra) district, the Local Government of Komárom-Esztergom county and the Local Government of Pest county.

The 23,999-km2 area of the Vah-Danube-Ipel Euroregion has about 2,846,976 inhabitants.

The objective and fields of the cooperation: making the region more attractive, the coordinated development of economy and tourism, development of relations between educational, scientific and innovation bases, harmonisation of regional development and regional organisation, cooperation in the fields of nature, environmental and water protection, disaster recovery; harmonisation of traffic and transport development, humanitarian and social cooperation, the preservation of common cultural heritage, successful participation in EU - Community financing programs, setting up the requisites of information exchange, ensuring of information flow, elaboration of recommendations, coordination of joint projects, programs, elaborating, conducting and supporting joint projects, programs.

Name of Region: West/West Pannonia (Threefold Danube region) Euroregion

The cross-border community of interest of three counties of the Werstern Transdanubia region (Győr-Moson-Sopron, Vas, Zala) and the province of Burgenland. The cooperation that existed before continued within the frame of EuRegio West/West Pannonia founded on 7 October 1998.

The number of the inhabitants of the 15,148-km2 area is exactly 1,3 million capita.

The development of the partner regions is made possible by intensive cooperation in the following fields: regional organisation, regional development, traffic, transportation and information, economy, tourism, culture and common cultural heritage, nature, environmental and water protection, public security and disaster recovery, health care and social issues, education and youth policy, employment.
