The Committee of the Regions organized the European Conference on European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation on 27th and the 28th January 2011.

This conference represented the kick-off of the Platform of EGTC launched by the Committee of the Regions. The 27th January the events was in Lille, celebrating the third anniversary of the creation of the EGTC Eurométropole Lille-Kortijk-Tournai. During the plenary session, speakers from the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Committee of the Regions as well as from different EGTCs discussed on the new prospects for EGTC. In the afternoon session, two working groups tackled issues regarding practical aspects of setting up and managing an EGTC. On the 28th the conference held in Brussels at the Committee of the Regions and focused on the launch of the EGTC Platform, which incorporated both existing EGTCs as well as those in preparation, along with members of the Committee of the Regions' Expert Group, public organisations and associations active in field of Territorial Cooperation and other experts and stakeholders interested in getting involved in this common area of action.
